Our Chix and Wix Journey

We (Kristy and Michelle) never planned to start a candle business. It honestly began with a simple concern – we started paying more attention to what we were bringing into our homes, especially with our kids around. When we learned about some of the ingredients in regular candles, we looked at each other and basically said, "We can do better than this."

So we started experimenting in our kitchens. We researched healthier alternatives and landed on a blend of beeswax and coconut oil that we loved. The learning curve was real (we still laugh about some of our early attempts), but we were determined to create candles that burned clean and actually smelled amazing.

Our families became our first testers. They'd let us know right away if a scent wasn't working or if something wasn't burning quite right. After lots of trial and error, we finally created candles we felt good about lighting in our own homes.

When friends started asking to buy them, we realized we might be onto something. In 2023, we officially launched Chix and Wix, pouring each candle by hand from our homes in Round Hill and Hamilton.

We've found that we work really well together – Michelle has an eye for finding unique vessels (including some great vintage finds) and handles our online presence and branding, while Kristy also discovers beautiful containers and has gotten pretty obsessed with perfecting the ideal wick for each candle and ensuring our quality is always top-notch. Between the two of us, we handle everything from sourcing materials to pouring to packaging.

What makes us proudest isn't just creating beautiful candles – it's knowing that we're making something that adds a little warmth and comfort to people's everyday moments. Whether it's unwinding after a long day or creating a cozy atmosphere for family dinner, there's something special about lighting a candle that's made with care and quality ingredients.
